What Is an Incubus Demon?
What Are Incubus Demons?
We’re sure you’ve heard of them and their female counterpart (succubus) before. Sex demons are a force to be reckoned with, but are they something you should be inviting? Let’s find out what these demons do and where the stories about them even come from.
In case you’re wondering if you can escape their attacks — we have the answer to that too.
What Is an Incubus Demon?
Let’s talk about sex demons. However, don’t get it twisted — demon sex isn’t all that pleasant most of the time. Actually, people describe it more like they’re being tormented and harassed… in their sleep. There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it while it’s happening, so it’s not something you should be looking forward to or inviting.
An incubus demon is a male demon that preys on women while they sleep. Why? So that he could have sex with them. However, “incubus” is not really his name. It’s a Latin word that describes what happens during an attack (“to lie upon”). But where did this all come from? It goes way back to 2400 BC Mesopotamia and the Sumerian King List. You’ve probably heard of “The Epic of Gilgamesh.” Well, his father Lilu is said to have harassed women in their sleep. His polar opposite was Lilitu or succubus, as we call it today.
Early Christianity also had stories about these attacks. In fact, there were too many to ignore. This mythic creature is said to sit on his victim’s chest, which is why it can feel like you have something weighing you down. However, the attack feels like what you would imagine — the sensations of someone kissing you or touching your body, as well as having lustful thoughts.
A lot of different countries have their own version of what an incubus demon is like. However, one thing remains the same — it’s not the kind of sex you’d want to experience.
What Does an Incubus Demon Look Like?
Again, with different folktales come different descriptions. Every country probably has one, so what do they actually look like? Let’s find out.
Most of the time, they’re small humanoid creatures. People describe them as small, ugly, spirit-like, vampire-like — you get the gist of it. They’re not something you’d want to see in the middle of the night. Some traditions even say that he has the body of a man but leaves footprints of a horse. That’s why some paintings of incubi depict horses as well as demons.
In Christianity, the demon himself doesn’t have a form. However, it’s said that he takes the body of a man in order to have sex with sleeping women. So, technically, he would look like your average man with supernatural powers. People say that they can sometimes impregnate women. We guess that would mean that your child wouldn’t look anything other than normal.
What to Do to Prevent Incubus Demon Attacks
From a scientific point of view, these attacks are a product of sleep paralysis. These occurrences are quite scary because they can make you see, hear, or feel things that aren’t there. Plus, you can’t do much about them other than let them pass because you cannot move.
Sleep paralysis happens when you aren’t getting enough sleep. So, to prevent it, all you have to do is get enough sleep and go to bed at roughly the same time every night. Doesn’t sound too difficult, right? But what if you have different beliefs? There are still some things you can do.
There isn’t much you can do to prevent these attacks because they come at random. However, once you feel them happening, there are five ways to get yourself out of that situation. The first one is to move to a different spot. If you’re in bed, try going to a different room. Secondly, the Sacramental Confession. If you cannot wait that long, there’s the third solution, and that’s making the Sign of the Cross or reciting Hail Mary. Finally, excommunication and exorcism are your options as well.
One of these is bound to work for you, as long as your faith is strong.
Incubus Demons as Seen in Movies
When it comes to movies, incubus demons are usually portrayed in the wrong way. Well, at least in newer movies. Most of the time, they have the name “Incubus,” however, there are exceptions like “Nightmare Man” and “Inkubus.”
In some movies, such as “Inkubus” and “Incubus” from 2006, these demons have absolutely nothing to do with their origins. In fact, they seem to simply be demon murderers, and that’s about it. However, in some of the older movies, like “Nightmare Man,” incubus demons get the depiction they deserve — those of sex demons. We do understand the tormenting of the victims part as well because it’s demons we’re talking about.
When it comes to his female counterpart — the succubus — there are also some movies portraying her. The most famous one is probably “Jennifer’s Body.” Sadly, the succubi don’t get the representation they deserve here either because, in this movie, Jennifer is a possessed murderer who kills and feeds on men.
Conclusion
Incubus demons seem like something out of our wildest, paranoid imaginations. However, for some, they’re all too real and something to be feared of. Once you cross paths with them, there are ways for you to chase them away. Sometimes, though, they can be more persistent than you think.
